A superb French Impressionist painting by an artist whose signature I just can't quite make out in order to identify him, though it is dated 1898. By that time Impressionism would have been in full flower, and Post-Impressionism would be a new (and daring) movement. At any rate, under a luminous country sky, a peasant in her native garb observes her poultry pecking at their feed on a road through an old village. Very accomplished brushstrokes and coloration, wonderful treatment of light. In an elaborate antique gold-leaf wooden frame. This painting has been restored professionally in order to stabilize the old canvas, and I've included a shot of the restoration label on back. Just a wonderful, cheerful old Impressionist scene.
Dimensions given are including frame.
