A lovely still vintage Impressionist still life that is almost all the way to abstraction, with the color passages around the fruit and flowers gently blending into one another. Comes framed, but I think it's worthy of a larger gold frame and would really come to life and have a greater presence with one. Israeli artist Helene Barth studied with Adolf Schmidt and Herman Struck in Germany, and later with Jakob Steinhardt and Mordecai Ardon in Jerusalem. She was made a "Worthy Citizen of Jerusalem" in 1978. One assumes she was one of the lucky Jews who were able to leave Germany with World War II looming, and later settle in Israel. Signed and dated 1957, Measures 24" x 32" with frame, 21" x 29" without.
