This statue came to us as part of a group of statues purchased by a European traveler taking the continental "tour" many did as a rite of passage in the late 19th century, bringing home with them items such as these from their stops in Greece, Italy, etc. Here we see Socrates, the Father of Western Culture, surrounded by Greek columns of bronze, on a black marble base, with more black marble as the temple top. This piece been around awhile and the marble has a few chips on it, so it is priced accordingly. Stands around 13" tall.
