Marly Horse, Late 19th Century
16 x 11 x 5 in

The famous Marly Horses of Guillaume Coustou have spawned a great array of variations since their appearance in mid-18th century France. The originals were carved in marble. I am not familiar enough with metals to identify the one used in this casting; it appears exactly like patinated bronze on the exterior, but could be cast from alloys, as they often were in the late 19th century (the period I estimate this one to be from). At any rate, as you can see, it is quite dramatic and detailed, a showpiece for your mantle or buffet!
