Janet Bosse
Man With a Red Fan, 1960-1969

Painted with obvious echoes of Van Gogh (even the sitter bears a resemblance to his self-portraits, his face painted with thick impasto brush strokes). He is wrapped in a brown cloak, holding a red oriental fan; behind him an Asian paper lamp glows. I suspect this painting is a subtle reference to the huge influence of Chinese art (prints in particular) in Van Gogh’s oeuvre. There is so much character to this painting! 28.5”h x 22.5”w (24”h x 18”w unframed)
