A gorgeous bucolic scene by Royal Academy member Philip Richard Morris (1835 – 1902), painted in the latter part of the 19th century. Two young ladies walk along a rutted country road; one of them is carrying a child. Just ahead of them are two young cows, representing motherhood and fertility. In the background is a cottage, with heaps of hay nearby, and further in the foreground, ducks or geese surrounding a small pong. A beautiful golden light glows from behind the ladies, speckling the path and reflecting off areas of puddled water. 22.5"h x 30.5"w (20”h x 27”w unframed)
