Alfonso Mena Pacheco
I have always loved the work of Antoni Tàpies, considered by many the pre-eminent Spanish painter since Picasso. Unfortunately this paintings are prohibitively expensive, at least for normal people. When I saw this, I thought immediate of him, though the idea that it was an actual Tàpies in the venue where I saw it struck me as unlikely. It turned out to be by the Mexican artist Alfonso Pacheco, who was almost certainly channeling Tàpies when he created it. It's a large, dramatic abstraction comprising wax, sand, oil and other media, and includes the sort of grooves and slashes that characterize Tàpies paintings. Would be extremely dramatic on the right wall and give an entire room a powerful contemporary feel.
It's a big painting and shipping will be high, so we consider sharing the cost with you.
