A sailor turns his boat away from land and sets out to sea in this bracing ocean scene. He will soon join a trawler out deeper, as well as other sailboats enjoying what appears to be a stiff breeze. A bit of shipwreck drifts off to the left of his boat, the artist’s subtle reminder of the power of nature even amidst this happy scene. Realistic and engaging depiction of both the choppy sea and mottled sky. Restoration at the bottom is hard to see unless you are looking for it. 19” x 23” with ornate wooden frame, 13” x 18” without.
