A lovely rural Impressionist scene, of an old farmhouse with terra cotta roof and complete with chickens in the yard. The painter Anton Funke is listed as both German and Dutch (born in 1869) and having spent time in both countries, I can say this scene could have been found in either country. I am guessing it was painted in the very early part of the 20th century based on the canvas age, stretcher and nails. Thickly and richly painted, with varnish still in good shape and no craquelure.
