A splendidly convincing depiction of a choppy day along a rocky coast, with sailboats in the distance leaning in the wind and gulls riding the gusts. Wonderful how the artist captures the varying transparency and subtle color changes of the water - very hard to master. By the age of the canvas and the stretcher I am estimating this as late 19th-century. Comes unframed.
