The subject of this quiet, peaceful oil painting is a woman who has stopped to rest a bit on a stoop while raking the garden. The artist has placed her discreetly off to the right while a large, flowering tree dominates the left of the painting. A hint of light is breaking through the branches of the tree towards the bottom, depicted with a splash of bright green and a speckling of sunlight. A moody, beautiful painting from right around the turn of the 20th century. 17” x 18” framed, canvas alone is 15” x 16.5”.
